Pedestrian Killed in Possible DUI Crash in Hollywood

KTLA reports that early Thursday morning, that a possible DUI driver lost control of their minivan, striking and killing a pedestrian.

Captain Brian Wendling, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, said in a statement to reporters that the incident happened at approximately 4: 00 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021.

Investigators say that a minivan driver was exiting the 101 Freeway at the Vine Street exit in Hollywood when they lost control of their vehicle. The minivan struck and jumped the curb, struck a guardrail, and crashed through a nearby fence before hitting a pedestrian. The minivan finally came to a rest when it struck a second fence.

The unidentified male pedestrian who lives at a nearby apartment complex was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the minivan was also injured in the crash. Paramedics took him to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries. The driver is currently listed in stable condition.

“We are assuming that speed was a factor,“ Captain Wendling said.  

The cause of the accident is still currently under investigation. So far, investigators have not yet determined whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the fatal crash.

Charges have not yet been filed.
