LAPD Announces DUI Weekend Checkpoints

According to a recent article appearing on the Patch.com website, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that it will be conducting several DUI checkpoints throughout the greater Los Angeles area this weekend.

The LAPD said that a DUI checkpoint will be set up on Friday, July 21, in Venice near the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Walgrove Avenue from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The law enforcement agency said it will also conduct DUI saturation patrols in different locations throughout the city. One saturation patrol will be conducted from 4:00 p.m. Friday to 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, in the Central Area.

On Saturday, July 22, the LAPD will establish DUI checkpoints at the following locations.

  • At the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Babcock Avenue from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

  • At the intersection of Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Marylee Street from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

  • At the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

On Sunday, July 23, the LAPD will conduct a DUI saturation patrol from 3:00 p.m. to  11:00 p.m. in the West Valley Area.

In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department said that the locations of the checkpoints and saturation patrol are based on data where DUI incidents and arrests have occurred in the past. The purpose of the checkpoints is not to increase the number of arrests but rather to remove impaired drivers from our streets and highways and to promote public awareness of the dangers of driving while impaired.

Funding for the DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols is made possible by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
