Tesla Employee Arrested For DUI

If you are an auto manufacturer whose vehicles are on “the cutting edge” of safety, you probably do not want a vehicle you produce making the news in an accident. Even the most technologically advanced safety systems cannot prevent an accident when the driver behind the wheel is driving while impaired. The Mercury News reports on a Tesla employee who has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

38-year-old Colin Flynn, a Tesla employee, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after failing to negotiate a curve and crashing into a creek embankment.

Flynn was alone in the vehicle and driving along Cochrane Road near Malaguerra Avenue when the crash occurred at about 3:45 a.m. on Monday. The Tesla Model 3 ended up partially submerged in Coyote Creek. Flynn was not injured in the crash.

Police were unable to confirm if the Model 3 was Flynn’s personal vehicle or if it was a company vehicle. They were able to confirm that Flynn was a Tesla employee.

Flynn was charged with driving under the influence and obstructing the work of a police officer. People in the state have no right to refuse a breathalyzer test and Flynn refused to provide testing before speaking with an attorney.

Police eventually obtained a warrant to get a blood sample to determine blood-alcohol content. Test results were not immediately available.

Flynn was taken to Santa Clarita County Jail and has since been released.
