Suspected DUI Motorist Arrested After Crashing into Utility Pole in Van Nuys

Key News Network reports that a man was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his full-size pickup truck into a utility pole in Van Nuys on Sunday night.

According to a statement released by the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened at approximately 12:41 a.m. within the block of Sherman Way when the eastbound driver crashed his Toyota Tundra pickup truck struck an electrical utility pole and ended up facing the wrong way.

An area resident heard the crash came out to investigate and asked the driver if he was all right. The eyewitness told police that the driver attempted to flee the scene, but the truck would not engage, and the rear wheels were spinning.

The Good Samaritan called 911 dispatchers to report the crash. LAPD officers and Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later.

Responding officers arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI and took him into custody. Authorities had not yet released the driver’s identity at the time of the report.

The force of impact left the power pole tilted toward the street, potentially endangering others. Firefighters secured the area with yellow caution tape around the compromised pole and notified the utility company to repair the pole.

No injuries were reported and there were no reported outages due to the collision.
