Suspected DUI Crash In La Quinta Leaves 4 Injured

According to a recent story appearing on the My News L.A. website, a 21-year-old man from Indio has been arrested on suspicion of DUI following an accident in La Quinta that left four people injured

Sgt. Mark Chlarson of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that the crash happened at approximately 4:49 p.m. on Sunday, September 18. at the intersection of Dune Palms Drive and Avenue 48.

The driver has been identified as 21-year-old Jesus Daniel Barrera of Indio. Investigators had determined that Barrera was driving a Dodge Durango westbound on Avenue 48 when he rear-ended a Nissan Rogue at a high rate of speed. The force of the impact caused the driver of the Nissan to lose control of their vehicle, initiating a rollover crash.

All four people inside the Nissan Rogue suffered major injuries and were rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center. Barrera refused medical treatment.

Sgt Chlarson told reporters that deputies determined that Barrera had been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was taken into custody and booked into the Larson Justice Center in Indio on the charge of DUI causing injury.

A judge set Barrera’s bond at $50,000. Justice Center records indicate that Barrera posted bond on Monday, September 19. Barrera’s arraignment has been scheduled at the Larson Justice Center on December 13.
