Son of the Owner of the Denver Broncos Arrested for DUI

Football has seen its share of news on the DUI front this week. An Alabama football player was arrested for DUI. Now, the son of the Denver Broncos owner has been arrested for DUI in California as well. As KDVR reports, this is not the first time that John Bowlen has been in trouble with the law.

31-year-old John Bowlen, son of Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and speeding last Sunday.

The incident took place in the Paso Robles area just north of San Luis Obispo at about 2 p.m. according to a California Highway Patrol report.

A CHP spokesman said that Bowlen used the median to pass vehicles at more than 100 m.p.h.

Tim Neumann, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol said in a statement that Bowlen was not cooperative with authorities. He stated several times that he was the son of Pat Bowlen, owner of the Denver Broncos.

Bowlen received no preferential treatment and was arrested like a normal citizen.

Bowlen was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and one count of having a reading of more than .08% alcohol in his blood.

There was an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, according to Neumann. Several drivers called to report Bowlen’s reckless driving. He was scheduled to be in court this past Monday morning.

At the time of the incident, Bowlen was on probation for a domestic violence incident where he was found guilty of harassment.
