Fox 40 reports that a suspected DUI driver has been arrested after a Citrus City man died in a crash in Sacramento County.
A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said in a statement that 57-year-old Ronald Ellis has been arrested and charged with DUI causing bodily injury or death with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.08% and other related charges.
CHP investigators determined that Ellis was driving his white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Elverta Road in Citrus City when he collided head on with a gray Ford Focus being driven by a 47-year-old man.
Metro Fire Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the driver of the Ford Focus in critical condition. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment, where he later died due to injuries he suffered in the crash.
The crash also hurt a 32-year-old woman who was in the front passenger seat. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Her condition had not been released at the time of the report; however, in a Tweet, Metro Fire officials said she suffered only minor injuries and was later released.
Ellis also suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and was later placed under arrest by CHP troopers for his role in the fatal crash.
Though he did know of any other fatal crashes near the intersection, area resident Frank Lopez told reporters that in the 10 years he has seen the two-lane road become busier over time.
“They’re treating it like it’s a major road than a two-lane road,” Lopez said.
The crash is currently under investigation.
