DUI Victim Succumbs to Injuries

A DUI can have serious consequences going beyond the possible loss of driver’s license, and thousands in fines and attorney’s fees.  If there is an accident involved with the DUI, the charges can become very serious.  If the accident results in a fatality, those charges can include things like vehicular manslaughter or vehicular homicide.

A man has died due to injuries sustained in an accident nearly two months ago. The driver was arrested on alleged DUI charges.

The accident happened on May 30 at about 6:30 p.m. on Wilmington Avenue just north of Greenleaf Boulevard according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver, 58-year-old Reginald Ross of Long Beach, struck a pedestrian, 42-year-old Marvin Jones.  Ross was arrested at the time under suspicion of DUI.  Jones was hospitalized in critical condition due to his injuries.

Ross was released after the district attorney’s office said that it needed more evidence.

Jones passed away due to his injuries on July 7.

Investigators began working to gather more evidence on the crash.  Eventually, prosecutors agreed to file the case against Ross.

Ross was re-arrested last Wednesday.  He was booked into the Century Regional Detention Center on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

Ross is being held at the Inmate Reception Center on a bond of $250,000.
