DUI Crash in Bakersfield Kills Two Pedestrians

ABC News in Bakersfield reported on Thursday that a 10-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man were killed in a crash on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of DUI that led to the fatal accident.

According to a statement released by the Bakersfield Police Department, the accident happened at approximately 1:16 p.m. in the 1400 block of Panama Lane near Monitor Street when two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle being driven by a 46-year-old woman. Investigators say that the vehicle left the road for an unknown reason and hit the two juveniles.

Bakersfield Police officers and paramedics with the Bakersfield Fire Department were dispatched to the site of the crash. The two pedestrians were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

Officers at the scene determined that the woman had been under the influence of drugs. Once the hospital clears her, police say they will place her under arrest on suspicion of DUI, and she will be booked into the Kern County Jail. 

Bakersfield Police have identified the driver as 46-year-old Lisa Core. Court documents indicate that this is the fourth DUI that Core has been charged with. This time, Core is potentially facing two counts of DUI murder.
