Alleged DUI Motorist Faces Child Endangerment & Causing Bodily Injury Charges

Hoodline reports that a 21-year-old woman is facing charges of DUI, child endangerment, and causing bodily injury in a crash in Morongo Basin last week.

In a statement, the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Department said the incident happened in Yucca Valley on Friday, October 27, at approximately 11:03 p.m. when Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call for a single-car accident at the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Kickapoo Trail.

An investigation determined that the driver, Genasea Portillo, lost control of her car and rolled it into the ditch. A 38-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car was ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics rushed her to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. She was later discharged from the hospital.

Also in the car was a 3-year-old child whom Portillo was “responsible for the care and well-being of.”  The child was uninjured in the incident.

Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Deputies at the scene determined that Portillo was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and placed her under arrest. She was taken to the Central Detention Center and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Portillo is due to appear in court this week.
