2 Killed in DUI Crash On Route 76 Near Pala

Those who get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs endanger their own lives and take the lives of everyone else on the road into their hands. Such a choice can lead to severe injury and a tragic loss of life.

That appears to be the case according to a recent report appearing on the Patch.com website in which two people lost their lives in a crash that involved a drunk driver. 

The California Highway Patrol responded to the two-vehicle crash just before midnight on State Route 76 at Pala Mission Road on Wednesday, September 3.

The accident involved a Nissan Xterra and a Toyota Rav-4. Responding officers with the CHP declared the 65-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman in the Toyota dead at the scene.

Investigators say that the male driver of the Nissan, 43-year-old Jesus Menoz of Vista. Menoz was traveling eastbound on Route 76 when he collided with the westbound Toyota Rav-4.

Menoz also suffered major injuries in the crash. Officials say, however, that Menoz’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he is expected to recover. 

A spokesperson for the Pala Police Department said in a statement that Menoz was arrested on the charges of felony DUI and homicide-related charges.
