In a statement released Monday, the Sacramento Police Department said the crash happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. near Richards Boulevard and Jibboom Street in front of the AM PM gas station and convenience store.

Officers responded to the scene where eyewitnesses say the suspect, 27-year-old Israel Campos, allegedly drove his vehicle into a group of pedestrians. A 38- year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second adult and two children, a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old, all suffered serious or critical injuries. They were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release its findings later this week. The identity of the victim has been withheld pending notification of family members.

Sacramento Police officers found the driver. After field sobriety and breathalyzer tests, Campos was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
