Woman Dies After Her Vehicle was Rear-Ended by an Alleged DUI Motorist

The Times of San Diego reports that an Oceanside woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 78 on Saturday. The driver of the other vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

According to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Melrose Drive.

Nicholas Gordon, 22, of Vista, California, was driving a Toyota Corolla with an unidentified 18-year-old who was along as a passenger when he crashed into the rear-end of a Kia being driven by a woman of unknown age.

The force of the impact put both vehicles into a retaining wall along the right shoulder of the road and sent the Kia into a rollover.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol and the Vista Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash. The woman driving the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gordon and his passenger were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. After Gordon received medical treatment, he was placed under arrest on the charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
