Teen Driver Arrested for DUI After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Colton

KTLA reports that on Saturday a 33-year-old man was killed after being struck by a teen driver who was intoxicated by alcohol and/or drugs.

According to a statement released by the Colton Police Department, at approximately 1:25 a.m., 19-year-old Christopher Roman was driving westbound on C Street when he struck the pedestrian near the intersection of C Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

After hitting the pedestrian, Roman fled the scene.

Police dispatchers received a call about someone lying in the roadway. Officers and paramedics responded to the crash site. The man was declared dead at the scene, having suffered from blunt force trauma. Authorities have declined to release any further information about the victim pending notification of family members.

Police officers found Roman near the site of the fatal crash and arrested him on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI. He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center.

Arrest documents indicate that Roman is facing additional charges of hit-and-run causing death and DUI causing injury. Since Roman is under the legal drinking age, prosecutors may add to the current charges. The investigation is ongoing.

Roman remains in custody on a $250,000 bond. He is due to appear before a San Bernardino Superior Court Judge on Wednesday, December 28.

The Colton Police Department is asking anyone with any further information to contact them at (909) 370-5000.
