So many people dream of driving a luxury sports car at high speeds. Sometimes what starts as a childhood fantasy carries on into adulthood. Who wouldn’t want a chance to get behind the wheel of such a powerful performance machine to find out what it’s like? However, living out such a dream while under the influence of alcohol can turn into a potentially deadly situation.
According to a story appearing on the KTLA website, such a scene unfolded in the early morning hours in Hollywood this past weekend.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, Officer Tony Im, said in a statement to reporters that the crash happened in the 6500 block of Selma Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
Investigators believe that the male driver of a Lamborghini SUV lost control of his vehicle and crashed into parked cars and a fence at a nearby U.S. Post Office. It is uncertain just how fast the driver was going at the time. Based on the damage that the luxury SUV sustained, detectives believe that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed in the bar district.
Police officers at the scene determined that the driver displayed several behaviors that indicated he had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The driver was placed under arrest. Authorities had not released his identity at the time of the report.
The driver and an undetermined number of passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash.
In a post to the law enforcement agency’s Instagram feed, the LAPD wrote, “High speeds + drunk driver + 2 a.m. in our bar district is a combination that could have led to an extremely tragic outcome. The alleged DUI is totally unacceptable.”
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
