Suspected DUI Driver Crashes into Fire Hydrant in Petaluma

According to a recent story appearing on the Hoodline website, a man suspected of driving under the influences of alcohol was arrested after he crashed his vehicle into a fire hydrant on Monday.

A spokesperson for the Petaluma Police Department said in a statement that the crash happened on January 15 at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The driver, 41-year-old Anthony Fires of Petaluma crashed his white Ford F-150 into the fire hydrant at the intersection of Petaluma Boulevard South and Crystal Lane.

Police responded to the scene to find the pickup truck lodged against the hydrant near a roundabout. Officers at the scene found that Fires was displaying symptoms consistent with intoxication and placed him under arrest.

Fires was taken to an area hospital to be checked out for any injuries. Immediately following his release, Fires was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

Petaluma Fire Department firefighters and police were able to get the situation under control and eliminate any safety risk to other motorists and area residents.

The incident provided incentive for the Petaluma Police Department to step up its safety initiatives and enforcement efforts to discourage similar reckless behavior. The PPD reminds the public to think ahead before any kind of celebration where alcohol is served and to always designate a sober driver.
