Nearly a month after a fatal crash, a man is finally being charged in the deaths of two brothers.
21-year-old Dylan Shane Rutherford of Simi Valley was allegedly drunk the night of the October 7th crash.
LAPD said that the crash was reported at about 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of De Soto Avenue and Chatsworth Street. A black Dodge Ram pickup struck the rear of a red pickup truck, forcing the red pickup on its side. Two occupants inside were trapped.
The Los Angeles Fire Department were eventually able to extricate the victims from the truck, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as brothers Hector Castro, 44, and 42-year old Ernesto Castro.
Two occupants of the black pickup truck, one of them Rutherford, fled the scene and were captured a little later.
On October 28th, Rutherford was charged with two counts each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run driving involving death.
Rutherford’s passenger, a female, was detained but was later released.
Rutherford was arrested shortly after the accident on October 7th. He was able to post $200,000 bail and was released on October 10th. He was scheduled to be arraigned yesterday in San Fernando.
If convicted, Rutherford faces up to 19 years in prison.
