My News LA reports that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested 10 people at a DUI checkpoint for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
According to a statement released by the law enforcement agency, the checkpoint was conducted from 9:00 p.m. on Friday until 3:00 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Heacock Street and Webster Avenue.
Corporal Joe Cornejo of the RCSD told reporters that of the 748 vehicles screened at the DUI checkpoint, four motorists were charged on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and one driver was arrested for driving while under the influence of drugs.
Four other drivers were arrested for driving with a suspended or revoked license, and one was arrested on misdemeanor charges.
Law enforcement officials across the state choose DUI checkpoint locations based on data, including past DUI accidents and incidents. The checkpoints’ purpose is not to increase the number of arrests but to deter motorists from driving while impaired and to keep our streets and roads safer.
Funding for this and other DUI checkpoints around the state are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
