Possible DUI Crash in Palmdale Leaves Two Women Dead

KFI AM Radio reports that a suspect has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after a crash in Palmdale on Thursday, January 5, in Palmdale.

According to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened at approximately 2:41 p.m. at the intersection of 100th Street East and East Avenue R when a white GMC pickup truck broadsided a red Hyundai Venue compact SUV.

An eyewitness to the crash told reporters that at least one person was on the ground when CHP officers arrived at the scene. 

Investigators say that two women had been inside the SUV at the time of the crash. Both women reportedly died at the scene due to the injuries they sustained in the crash.

The force of impact also caused downed utility poles and power lines. Crews from Southern California Edison (SCE)  were dispatched to the scene.

CHP officers administered field sobriety tests to the male driver of the pickup truck. He was arrested and taken into custody. Intoxication by drugs and/or alcohol has not been ruled out. Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect. 

Avenue R was closed to traffic from 100th Street to 102nd street while the officers investigated.
