Police Chase Ensues After Felony Hit-and-Run DUI Crash

According to a recent story appearing on the Hoodline website, on Tuesday American Canyon Police officers were led on a chase after a suspected DUI motorist crashed into another vehicle and fled the scene.

A spokesperson for the American Canyon Police Department said in a statement that the collision happened on Tuesday, January 30, at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the junction of Highway 29 and Eucalyptus Drive.

Investigators determined that 30-year-old Carlos Perez of Oakland who was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer crashed into another vehicle. Rather than stopping, Perez fled the scene. The victim followed Perez into an area near Donaldson Way and West Carolyn Drive.

Perez abandoned his vehicle and, to avoid capture, he hid in some nearby vegetation. It was when he emerged from his hiding place and tried to recover his vehicle that Perez was captured by police as he tried to flee on foot.

Perez was booked into the Napa County Jail and is currently facing several charges that include felony DUI, hit-and-run, DUI causing injury, resisting arrest, and unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle.

The victim in the crash was later transported by paramedics to a local hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries. Their current condition had not been released at the time of the report.
