The Sacramento Bee reported recently that a Carmichael man was arrested by officers of the California Highway Patrol following the death of a pedestrian in a motor vehicle accident suspected to be caused by driving under the influence.
According to the North Sacramento office of the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred between 6:25 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on the evening of Tuesday, January 12, at a busy intersection in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento County, when a pedestrian of unknown age or identity was struck by a white GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a man 69 years of age, near the intersection of Arden Way and Watt Avenue. Medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident.
The pickup truck driver stopped at the scene of the accident and was fully cooperative with law enforcement officers. He was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. Authorities are currently working to determine the identity of the pedestrian so it can be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
This accident is still under an active investigation and eyewitnesses are asked to contact authorities with relevant information.
