One Man Dead, Child Critically Injured in Suspected DUI Crash

KTLA reports a man has died and a boy has been critically injured after a crash in Lancaster on Saturday night.

In a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, authorities say that the two-car collision happened at approximately 11:16 p.m. on Saturday, July 29,  near the intersection of 20th East Street and Avenue L.

According to a preliminary investigation, a man driving a Lexus heading northbound on 20th Street East blew through a red light at the intersection with Avenue L. He collided with a westbound Ford sedan that was carrying a driver and four passengers.

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster Station and Lancaster Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene of the crash. An adult man who was riding as a passenger in the back seat of the Ford was declared dead at the scene.

A boy of undisclosed age who was also a passenger in the back seat of the Ford was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. His current condition was not released at the time of the report.

Officials have not said whether anyone else in the Ford or the Lexus were injured in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation; however, officials believe that the driver of the Lexus was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal crash.
