Motorcyclist Killed in Suspected DUI Crash

The East Bay Times reports that an unidentified man was arrested following a fatal crash near the San Jose Regional Medical Center earlier this week.

Sgt. Jorge Garibay with the San Jose Police Department said in a statement that the crash happened at approximately 1:00 a.m. near the intersection of North Jackson Avenue and Alexian Drive.

Investigators say that a man driving a 2003 Dodge pickup truck northbound on Jackson Avenue was attempting to make a left turn into the parking lot of an apartment complex when he collided with a man riding a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle heading southbound on Jackson.

Paramedics rushed the motorcyclist to Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite all efforts made by doctors and first responders, the man died from his injuries.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office has withheld the victim’s identity pending notification of family members.

The unidentified driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene. San Jose Police Department officers administered field sobriety and breathalyzer tests and confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time.

The man was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. Still, he may be facing more serious charges pending the results of an investigation.
