Man Receives 15-Year Sentence For Fatal Hit-And-Run DUI Wreck

Pasadenanow.com reported that a man accused of causing a fatal DUI accident received a fifteen-year prison sentence for his role in the tragic incident, in which he struck another man with his pickup truck while driving drunk in Pasadena.

The 42-year-old man pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in June, and to the special allegation of fleeing the scene of the accident, which took place on October 6, 2019. The accident happened on Colorado Boulevard between Madison and El Molino Avenues; he was driving westbound when he hit a 31-year-old Minnesota man as the victim was crossing Colorado Boulevard around 3:15 am. He did not stop after striking the pedestrian victim, and investigators found the truck parked in an underground garage several blocks away. The drunk driver was arrested when he returned to retrieve his vehicle later.

Original charges included murder, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and hit-and-run, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court. Upon pleading no contest to the charge he was sentenced for, other charges were dropped.

His sentence was for the statutory maximum length of ten years for manslaughter with an additional five years for fleeing the scene, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
