Man Charged with DUI Crash in Orange with Multiple Fatalities

My News LA reports a 26-year-old man was charged earlier this week in connection to a DUI hit-and-run crash in Orange that left two people dead.

Authorities say officers were called to the crash scene at approximately 8:17 p.m. on Thursday in the 700 block of North Shattuck Place. Investigators say that Humberto Lopez Flores was driving southbound on Shattuck in a Ford F-250 pickup truck when he veered into a parked Chevy Silverado and two pedestrians who were standing near the second vehicle.

Eyewitnesses say that Lopez Flores fled the scene of the crash and made no attempt to render aid to the pedestrians.

Orange Police and the Orange Fire Department paramedics rushed to the crash site. Unfortunately, however, the two men, aged 59 and 51, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Police caught Lopez Flores at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Oakmont Avenue and placed him under arrest.

Police have charged Lopez Flores with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, as well as counts of hit-and-run with permanent and serious injury, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08% causing injury, and fleeing the scene of a gross vehicular manslaughter, all of which are considered felonies. Lopez Flores also faces a misdemeanor charge for driving on a suspended or revoked license.
