LAPD Plans DUI Checkpoints Near North Hollywood Over Holiday Weekend

According to a recent report appearing on Patch.com, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that it plans to conduct several DUI checkpoints on and around the July 4th holiday this year.

The law enforcement agency issued a statement saying that beginning on Saturday, July 3rd, at approximately 5:00 p.m., they would post officers in the West Valley area at Glenoaks Boulevard. The checkpoint will last until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 4th. Officers will also conduct a checkpoint at Truesdale Street in Sun Valley, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday to 11:00 p.m. that night.

The LAPD said that they chose these checkpoints based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests in the past. In the statement, the LAPD insists the checkpoints are more about ensuring and promoting public safety rather than citing and arresting DUI drivers.

Officers will look for drivers who display signs of being impaired by either alcohol or drugs.

Funding for the checkpoints has been provided through grants from the California Offices of Traffic Safety via the U.S.National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The LAPD advises that the general public can also assist officers in keeping our streets and roadways safe by:

  • Confiscating the keys of intoxicated drivers before they get behind the wheel
  • If you observe someone that you believe is driving under the influence, call 911.
  • When hosting a party, offer non-alcoholic drinks, monitor who is drinking and how they plan to return home.

On behalf of our firm, we would like to wish everyone a happy and safe July 4th weekend in 2021!
