LAPD Cop Hurt In DUI Pursuit

ABC Channel 7 Eyewitness News reported recently that a Los Angeles Police Department officer was injured in a motor vehicle accident on the morning of Thursday, May 6, 2021 during a police pursuit of a driver alleged to be driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants (DUI.)

According to officials from the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred between 1:55 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Thursday, May 6, 2021 near the intersection of Western Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. LA Police were pursuing a suspected DUI driver. A police officer rushing to the scene crashed into an uninvolved vehicle for unknown reasons still under investigation.

The police officer suffered unspecified injuries; no information was provided on whether the civilian that the police officer crashed into was injured. It has been speculated that the police officer’s reckless conduct may have been more dangerous to motorists than the allegedly drunk driver he was in pursuit of, who was brought into custody near Venice Boulevard and Union Avenue to bring the chase to an end. The incident remains under investigation and no further information is currently available.
