Lancaster Residents Detain DUI Suspect

Anthony Cheval with Key News Now reports that the citizens of Lancaster banded together to apprehend and detain a suspected DUI driver after he struck a power pole and into a home located in a residential neighborhood.

On Monday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol, and Los Angeles County Firefighters responded to a 911 call regarding the crash and a possible fight at the intersection of 55th Street West and Avenue L-8 at approximately noon.

LA County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene to find several area residents wrestling with a driver who had allegedly crashed into the retaining wall and front yard of a home.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told deputies that the driver of a gray, four-door sedan had attempted to flee the scene of the crash after his vehicle collided with a power pole.

A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol told reporters that the DUI suspect driver has had a history of DUI arrests. The man is currently on supervised probation for his habitual DUI arrests.

Authorities had not released the man’s identity at the time of the report.

No injuries were reported from the crash; however, the driver allegedly had two near misses just before he crashed into the utility pole.
