Fontana Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal DUI Crash

The San Bernardino Sun reports that a Fontana man was arrested in connection to a suspected DUI crash that resulted in two fatalities in Redlands last year.

According to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened on November 25 at approximately 6:30 a.m. on San Bernardino Avenue when the suspect driving a Kia ran a red light and was hit by a semi-tractor-trailer rig. The big rig was heading northbound on Alabama Street.

The driver of the Kia fled the scene of the crash on foot, leaving the three passengers in his vehicle behind.

All three of the victims left inside the Kia were rushed to an area hospital; all in critical condition. Despite all life-saving efforts made by doctors and medical staff, two of the passengers died. The third victim survived the crash. Their condition was not available at the time of the report.

On January 26, Fontana authorities arrested 26-year-old Roberto Alvarez-Rodriguez. Arrest documents indicate that Alvarez-Rodriguez was arrested on gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash. The law enforcement agency is asking anyone who has any further information about the crash to contact CHP Officer Lomenick at (909) 383-4247.
