My News LA reports one driver is dead, and another has been arrested following a crash in Redondo Beach on Monday.

According to a statement released by the Redondo Police Department, police officers responded to calls of a major traffic collision near the intersection of Rindge Lane and Artesia Boulevard at approximately 6:40 p.m.

Officials say that a female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was taken to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Police investigators believe that he was intoxicated at the time of the fatal collision.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has withheld the victim’s name pending notification of family members.

Police have also chosen to withhold the identity of the second driver due to their current medical condition and the ongoing status of the investigation of the fatal crash by the Redondo Beach Police Department’s Traffic Division.

The suspect driver is expected to recover. Police say that they will likely be facing the charges of felony vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Anyone with any information about the crash is urged to call Traffic Investigator Scot Martin with the Redondo Police Department at (310) 379-2477, extension 3862.
