DUI Motorist Crashes Into Presidential Motorcade

ABC 7 in Los Angeles reports that a Delaware man made national headlines after he crashed his car into an SUV that was part of President Biden’s motorcade near his campaign headquarters over the weekend.

Authorities in Wilmington say that the crash happened at approximately 8:09 p.m. when a 46-year-old man crashed his gold Ford sedan into a parked SUV, which was a part of President Biden’s Secret Service detail. The President and First Lady had attended a dinner in their honor and were leaving when the crash happened.

The sedan then tried to flee the scene by going into a closed-off intersection. The suspect was stopped when Secret Service agents surrounded his car with weapons drawn. He was ordered to get out of his vehicle with his hands up.

President Biden had just answered a reporter’s question when the accident occurred. Secret Service agents responded quickly and escorted the President into a waiting SUV where First Lady Jill Biden was already inside.

According to a statement released by the Secret Service, neither the President nor the First Lady were injured. They were safely escorted to their Wilmington home without further incident.

The crash was determined to be an accident, and the sedan’s driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and inattentive driving.

So far, the identity of the driver has not been released.
