DUI Driver Arrested After Firing Shots from His Vehicle in Chico

CBS affiliate in Chico, Action News, reports that a local man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and other related charges after he allegedly fired shots from the sunroof of his vehicle.

According to a statement given by a spokesperson for the Chico Police Department, the incident happened at approximately 9:15 on Sunday, April 3, in the 500 block of East Avenue, just east of Highway 99.

Police officers responded to several 911 reports of shots fired in the area. Officers pulled over Francisco Martinez and questioned the suspect. While conducting a search of Martinez’s vehicle. Chico officers found several cartridge casings and the gun. On further investigation of the weapon, police found that it had been reported stolen out of San Francisco. 

Martinez was taken into custody and currently faces the charges of suspicion of DUI, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and additional related charges as an addict in possession of a firearm, which is considered a felony in the state of California. 

If convicted of the charges against him, Martinez could face a sentence of 3 years or more in prison.
