DUI Driver Arrested After Deadly Rollover Crash in Orange Cove

ABC23  in Bakersfield reports that a woman has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after a single-vehicle rollover crash in Orange Cove earlier this week.

According to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident on Monday, February 28, happened at approximately 3:10 a.m. when 20-year-old Yesenia Corona was driving her 2019 Volkswagen Jetta along Roller Drive. Corona failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went off the pavement. The sudden change in terrain caused a tripped rollover crash into a dry canal.

Firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency first responders were called to the scene. Inside the crashed vehicle, CHP officers found beer bottles and drug paraphernalia.

Both the driver and a passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. The person who was riding as a passenger in Corona’s car died at the scene from injuries they sustained in the crash. Authorities have withheld their identity pending notification of family members.

Corona was taken to Kaweah Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Because use of drugs and alcohol was suspected in the crash, after being treated and released at the hospital, she was arrested by CHP officers on felony suspicion of DUI.
