Driver in Fatal Lake Elsinore Crash Suspected of DUI

Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is never a good idea. Mixing either with speed while behind the wheel can become lethal. That appears to be what happened in a fatal crash over the weekend.

Patch.com reports that one person died, and two others were injured in a Lake Elsinore crash late Saturday night.

According to a statement issued by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the two-vehicle crash happened on Saturday, August 13, at approximately 10:33 p.m. in the 2900 block of Lake Street.

Firefighters and paramedics from the Riverside County Fire Department responded to the scene. One person was declared dead at the scene of the crash, while two others were taken to an area hospital. One person was reported to have suffered major injuries, while the second person suffered only minor injuries.

Paramedics evaluated two additional people at the scene, with one declining medical treatment.

Authorities said that the driver who caused the fatal crash fled the scene on foot but was apprehended a short time later by Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies and placed under arrest.

“It is believed that alcohol and speed are factors in the collision,” a spokesperson for the RCSD said.

The suspect will likely face charges of felony DUI and hit-and-run.
