Derek Fisher, Former LA Laker, Arrested for DUI

A former player for the LA Lakers, Derek Fisher, has been arrested for DUI after an accident according to CBS Los Angeles and ESPN. Here are the details we know so far.

The accident happened on the 101 Freeway just east of the 405 Interchange. The driver veered off to the right and hit the curb and the guardrail. The car flipped over. Thankfully, both he and his passenger were unharmed in the incident.

The crash happened around 3 AM according to the California Highway Patrol. As part of their procedure, they gave Fisher a breathalyzer test. He blew a 0.08, which is the legal limit for a DUI conviction. He was arrested and later released.

Fisher released a statement that he’s glad that both him and his girlfriend survived the crash. He’s happy to be alive. If he’s convicted of DUI, however, that will be a major stumbling block to moving forward. Even a first time DUI offense carries significant penalties. Years of probation, DUI school, ignition interlocks, fines, and even possible jail time are on the table.
