Convicted DUI Driver to be Arrested After Fatal Palm Springs Crash

The Desert Sun reports that a man previously convicted of DUI was arrested for his role in a fatal crash in Palm Springs on Sunday.

According to a statement released by the Palm Springs Police Department, the crash happened at approximately 9:07 p.m. at the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive and Sunrise Way.

A vehicle being driven by 57-year-old Kevin Atterberry of Los Angeles was heading southbound on Sunrise Way when he rear-ended a second vehicle that was stopped at the intersection, causing a chain reaction that involved two additional vehicles.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene of the crash and declared the driver of the second vehicle dead at the scene, while the passenger was rushed to an area hospital for treatment with serious injuries.

Atterberry was also injured and was taken to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

Investigators found that Atterberry was driving under the influence of alcohol. Atterberry was also involved in a previous hit-and-run crash on Sunday near Sunrise Way and Ramon Road intersection.

Police officials say that as soon as Atterberry is released from the hospital, he will be placed under arrest for DUI and other related charges.
