Hoodline reports that a suspected DUI motorist led police units and California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase through the streets of Los Angeles and across multiple freeways before ending in gridlock on the 405 Freeway on Saturday.
According to an official statement, the incident began on Saturday, November 25, at approximately 10:00 p.m. in the city of Bell, where police officers attempted to pull over a suspected DUI motorist.
The driver refused to obey police instructions to pull over, so officers initiated the chase. When the suspect entered the Freeway, Bell Police Department officers passed the pursuit over the California Highway Patrol.
The chase continued on the 10 Freeway, the 105 Freeway, and the 100 Freeway into the San Gabriel Valley before making its way to the Gateway Cities.
Officials say that, at times, the suspect reached speeds of 100 to 140 miles per hour.
The pursuit continued through Los Angeles until the suspect driver encountered gridlocked traffic on the northbound 405 Freeway near Inglewood. Investigators say the traffic snarl was due to an earlier accident on the Freeway.
Unable to elude law enforcement officers any further, the suspect, with a passenger who was in the vehicle, surrendered to CHP officers.
The California Highway Patrol had not released the suspect’s identity at the time of the report.
