Allegedly Drunk Driver Causes Lancaster Wreck

My News LA reported recently that a DUI suspect, fleeing a minor hit-and-run motor vehicle accident in Lancaster Thursday, then collided with another motor vehicle in the Lancaster area, killing one local woman and injuring three other people.

The victim was a 65-year-old woman, according to officials from the local coroner’s office. The series of events began around 7:20 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Avenue J, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster station.

A female driver crashed into a vehicle around 7:20 and fled. No injuries were reported, but the driver that was hit called the sheriff’s department and then followed the suspect vehicle.

The first driver ran a red light at the intersection of Avenue J-8 and 20th Street East, broadsiding a vehicle legally passing through the intersection. The impact killed the vehicle’s driver, a woman 65 years of age. The front-seat passenger was rushed to a hospital in critical condition for severe head trauma, and the two passengers in the back seat were also hospitalized with moderate head injuries but are in stable condition.

The driver who hit the car suffered from minor injuries and was arrested for suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
