Alleged DUI Driver Crashes Into Business in South Redding

Yahoo! News reports that Redding Police officials believe a 43-year-old man was driving under the influence of drugs when he crashed into a business located on Market Street on Monday.

The Redding Police Department has identified the driver as Jorden Wheeler of Anderson.

Investigators say that Wheeler was driving his Mazda 3 southbound on Market Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. when his vehicle inexplicably left the roadway, colliding with a fire hydrant and two unoccupied vehicles parked along the street.

The car then crashed into a clump of bushes and other vegetation in front of Wonderland Signs before coming to a stop.

Police and paramedics arrived on the scene. In a statement on Facebook, the Redding Police Department said that officers administered sobriety tests and determined that he was under the influence of drugs.

The driver had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but was complaining of pain. Wheeler was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

After his release from the hospital, Wheeler was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs.

Prior arrest records indicate that Wheeler was also arrested on October 6 for DUI. During the previous arrest, police impounded his Mazda. Wheeler picked up the vehicle just one hour before his second DUI arrest.

The Redding Police Department said it will submit an investigative report to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
