Accused DUI Driver Faces Court

My News LA reported recently that a convicted felon, who is now accused of causing a motor vehicle accident that killed a small child in Moreno Valley while driving drunk, made his first appearance in court regarding the charges of second-degree murder and felony DUI he now faces.

According to officials with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, the original incident occurred on Thursday, January 28, 2021 between 6:55 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) near the intersection of Heacock Street and Ironwood Avenue in the Riverside area. The defendant lost control of his vehicle, veered off the roadway, and struck a light pole near the road. Riverside County Sheriff’s Office deputies allegedly determined via questioning at the accident site that the man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Both he and his passenger, a child six years of age, were transported to the nearby Riverside University Medical Center for treatment, where the child succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident on Sunday, January 31.

The defendant had minor injuries treated before being released to Sheriff’s Office custody for booking on suspicion of DUI, where he was released on a $90,000 bail. After the child died, he was taken back into custody for charges of second-degree murder.
