Young Child Dies in Alleged DUI Crash

Two families were left devastated and mourning after a deadly DUI crash that claimed the life of a three-year-old boy.

The crash occurred on Friday, September 9th in San Ramon, California.

An Alameda County Sheriff’s Spokesperson confirmed that 3-year-old Elijah Dunn died in the crash that occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on northbound Interstate Highway 680.

39-year-old Yarenit Liliana Malihan, the wife of a sheriff’s deputy, was arrested following the collision.

The victims of the crash were inside a 2007 Toyota Camry were parked on the shoulder of the highway. Inside the car were three children and their mother. Malihan’s 2008 Toyota Sequoia crashed into the back of the vehicle.

3-year-old Elijah, his 1-year-old sister, and his 11-year-old brother were all rushed to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Elijah succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The mother was taken to John Muir Medical Center with serious injuries.

The small children inside the Camry were secured in child-safety seats and everyone else was wearing a seatbelt.

Malihan was booked into the county jail after being treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

Sheriff’s officials are making sure that the family has the support they need like counseling and peer support. They also send their thoughts out to the family of the victims.

Malihan was released on bail.
