Any DUI in California can come with some very harsh penalties. However, if there is an accident involved with the DUI charge, the penalties can quickly become more severe. In fact, the worse the accident and the more severe the injuries, the greater the penalties that a person could face. For example, the judge may decide to sentence a person to the full six months of jail time instead of the normal 48 hours. The DUI charges may even change, or a person may find themselves facing additional charges such as misdemeanor DUI causing injury or felony DUI causing serious injury. This may be in addition to a separate DUI charge.
