Woman Charged for January 6 Riot Charged for DUI

KTLA reports a woman charged for her participation in the January 6, 2021 riots in the U.S. Capitol was arrested last week in Franklin County, Missouri, on suspicion of DUI. The crash left one woman dead and another man seriously injured.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened just after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, when 22-year-old Emily E. Hernandez of Sullivan was driving westbound at approximately 60 miles per hour in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 44 in Franklin County near St. Clair.

Law and Crime also reports that a truck driver, Jeff Barlow, recorded a video of the crash and told reporters that he tried for six miles to alert Hernandez that she was going the wrong way. Barlow described the head-on collision as ‘looking like an explosion.

Hernandez’s vehicle struck that of a 32-year-old woman and her husband. The woman was declared dead at the scene, and the male driver and Hernandez were both seriously injured. Hernandez was transported to Mercy Hospital in Washington for treatment.

According to a statement issued by Corporal Dallas Thompson with the Missouri Highway Patrol, Hernandez has been cited for one count of driving while intoxicated resulting in death and one count of driving while intoxicated resulting in injury. Both charges are considered felonies.

The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office will also seek formal charges after a full toxicology report is released.

Hernandez is also facing five misdemeanor charges in U.S. District Court for knowingly entering a restricted building without authority, stealing, and other associated charges. Hernandez has been photographed holding a broken sign for Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office during the January 6 riots.
