Two Mothers Accused of DUI in Southern California

Last Sunday, two mothers were accused of DUI in Southern California. Both mothers had their children in the car at the time of the arrest. NBC Los Angeles has the story.

In the first incident in San Diego, the driver crossed into the oncoming lane, jumped the curb, and hit a tree. It was in the early afternoon on University Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a five-year-old with minor injuries in the front seat. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Both her and the mother, who was seriously injured, were taken to the hospital.

In the second incident in Chula Vista, a woman ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle. Both her and the toddler in her car were fine, but the people in the other vehicle were injured. The child was turned over to relatives before the mother was arrested for DUI.

Driving DUI with a child opens you up to other charges such as endangering a minor. These types of charges cast doubt by the courts on your ability to be a responsible driver, or even a responsible parent. In extreme cases, the court could even put your children into foster care if you drive while DUI with them.
