Two Killed, Three Children Hurt In Newport Beach DUI

Channel 2 KCAL Channel 9 CBS Los Angeles News reported recently that a couple was killed and their three young children all critically injured in a crash believed to be caused by driving under the influence in the southern California town of Newport Beach on Wednesday.

The incident occurred between 7:40 p.m. and 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9 in Newport Beach on Newport Coast Drive, a steep road in the area of the Pelican Hill Resort and killed a Santa Ana man 27 years of age and his wife, 29 years of age.

Their children, ages 1, 3, and 5, were in the backseat and were all transported to the hospital in critical condition. The family had been on the way to Pelican Hill Resort to pick up the man’s final paycheck after he had recently worked in housekeeping there.

The second car involved in the accident, a Range Rover, was driven by a 22-year-old LA woman who was already awaiting trial for a previous arrest for DUI. She was booked under suspicion of murder, DUI causing bodily injury, and hit-and-run resulting in death, according to officials with the Newport Beach Police Department.
