Two Dead, Three Injured In Newport Beach DUI

The Andover Leader reported recently on a motor vehicle accident in Newport Beach, California that led to the death of two parents and their three children critically injured in a collision allegedly caused by a driver who was driving under the influence (DUI).  

The incident occurred between 7:40 p.m. and 7:50 p.m. Pacific Standard Time last Tuesday, December 8. A woman from Newport Beach, CA, 22 years of age is in custody for the incident, in which she allegedly crashed her Range Rover SUV into a Nissan Versa hatchback occupied by a married couple, 27 years of age and 28 years of age, and their three young children, aged one year, three years, and five years, near the intersection of Newport Coast Drive and Pelican Hill Road South. The married couple had been on their way to a local resort to pick up a paycheck from the man’s employer when the accident occurred. 

The suspected DUI driver was already awaiting trial for a previous DUI incident in August of this year. The three children are hospitalized and currently safe, and the driver who caused the accident was also hospitalized and faces charges of traffic manslaughter, DUI causing substantial injury, and quick in and out bringing about death.
