Teen Charged With DUI After Stealing Family Car

Sneaking out of the house to go to a party or on a date – it is something many a teenager has done. One teenager, however, stole his mother’s car in the process and is facing charges. As NBC Los Angeles reports, a teen in Santa Ana is accused of driving under the influence.

Last Thursday, July 13, a teen was booked under suspicion of DUI. This came after he sneaked out of the house and stole his mother’s car. The crash injured four people.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was speeding down the 1600 block of South Greenville Street at 11 a.m. He lost control of the vehicle and jumped the curb up onto the sidewalk. There, he sped into a group of pedestrians.  

Four individuals were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The teen’s family said that he had taken off the night before in his mother’s Honda. He reportedly did not have a license.

The teen is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and driving without a license.

The juvenile was released to his parents on Thursday and police plan to try and charge him as a juvenile.  

The boy’s parents apologized to the families of the victims and indicated that they felt betrayed by their son’s actions.
