The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that a woman is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol after she struck a utility pole in Oceanside, knocking out power to some 1,500 homes in the area.
According to a statement released by the San Diego Police Department, on Friday, February 11, at approximately 9:25 p.m., the suspect driver was driving her Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at a high rate of speed on El Camino Real between Los Arbolitos and Mission Avenue when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole.
Firefighters and paramedics safely extracted the woman from her crumpled vehicle and transported her to an area trauma center for evaluation. The extent of her injuries was not available at the time of the report.
A blood alcohol test revealed that the unidentified motorist exceeded the legal limit of .08 percent. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI immediately following treatment for her injuries.
Local authorities say that debris from the crash was removed from the crash site, and power was restored to all affected residents by Saturday morning.
