Suspected DUI Motorist Crashes Into Police Cruiser in Visalia

ABC affiliate KFSN in Visalia reports that a suspected DUI motorist has been arrested after causing a crash that injured a Visalia Police officer over the weekend.

According to a spokesperson for the Visalia Police Department, the crash happened on Saturday, December 31, at approximately 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of West Street and Main Street. 

A Visalia Police officer was heading northbound on West Street when his cruiser when 35-year-old Daniel B. Solis, traveling eastbound on Main Street, blew through a red light and collided with the police cruiser. 

Police and paramedics responded to the scene of the crash. The police officer and Solis were taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

Both were later released from the hospital and are expected to be ok. 

Immediately following his release from the hospital, Solis was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than the legal limit of 0.08 percent, and DUI causing bodily injury. 

Solis was taken into custody and booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility.
