Suspected DUI Motorist Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash

According to the California Highway Patrol, during the law enforcement agency’s maximum enforcement period over the holidays, the state saw an 8% increase over 2021 in the number of DUI arrests. The maximum enforcement program concluded at midnight on Sunday.

KCRA reported on their website that police in Sacramento have arrested a DUI suspect after a fatal hit-and-run crash with a pedestrian early Sunday, January 2, 2022.

In a statement, the Sacramento Police Department said that the crash happened at approximately 1:20 a.m.at the intersection of Stockton Boulevard and Fruitridge Road.

Officers responding to the scene found an adult male pedestrian suffering from severe injuries in the roadway. Despite all life-saving efforts by police and paramedics, the unidentified man died from his injuries.

Searching the surrounding area, Sacramento Police officers found the suspect drove a short distance away in a vehicle that had been reported stolen on Saturday night. The officers observed the driver displaying several indicators of intoxication. 

After failing a series of field sobriety tests, officers arrested 33-year-old Oletha Durham on the felony charges of vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury or death, and vehicle theft.
